Barcode Label Scanners
Using barcode scanners for inputting barcodes into Chematix increases accuracy and decreases the time necessary to complete the task.
Chematix is able to work with any scanner that can read Code 128 standard for barcodes.
When choosing a scanner, you'll want to consider the cost, the battery life, durability, the number of barcodes stored in the memory, base charging and connection with computer, and the size of the scanner.
Environmental Health and Safety highly recommends the use of a wireless with memory function for reconciliation. It is possible to use a scanner tethered to a laptop (USB connection); however, we found a wireless connection to be more efficient. Batch inventory scanners are more expensive, but may be more acceptable to the end user. EH&S has no experience with batch scanners at this time.
Departments may want to purchase a few scanners for the labs to sign out, particularly for reconciliation.
Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) currently uses scanners from POSX (www.pos-x.com) for inventory data input. We have both USB and wireless scanners; and have used them extensively for the last two years without a problem.
EH&S purchases POSX scanners from Adazon Labeling and Barcoding Solutions (Rachel Snyder); and these scanners are widely available through other sources such as Amazon.
- USB connection: This type of scanner is used with laptops on our inventory carts when inputting chemicals
- Model number - ION Linear Imager (ION-SP1-ACU)
- Wireless connection: This type of scanner allows staff to move about the room freely while scanning barcodes. It is important to ensure that wireless scanners also have a memory function. Scanners with memories will store data in the event you walk out of range of the computer.
- Model number - ION Wireless Linear Imager (ION-SP1-ACW)
