Hazardous Drug Safety and Health Plan
Medical care personnel providing drug treatment to patients are at risk of exposure to many hazardous drugs. Generally, these drugs include those listed in the categories of antineoplastic agents, cytotoxic agents, immunosuppressant agents as well as growth factor agents.
To assist SMH medical care personnel, SMH revised Policy 7.10, renamed the Hazardous Drug Agent Policy, to specify measures personnel are to take when handling these agents. A companion document, the Hazardous Drug Safety and Health Plan has been developed to provide more detailed information on the preparation, transportation, delivery, disposal and clean up of spills of these hazardous drugs. A listing of the drugs is available through the SMH Pharmacy.

Technical questions on the hazards of these drugs can be directed to the SMH Pharmacy, the Poison Center or Environmental Health &Safety.
